Fun Ideas

Some fun Penny Power collection ideas.

Whenever there is an informal church gathering, have people help count and sort coins.

Inspire a little friendly competition - challenges between young and old, guys and girls, between churches.

Have people save plastic water bottles or mason jars with cloth covers (fabric appropriate for kitchen, dresser top and kids room) and use at home to collect coins.

Design a unique coin collection container, such as tall tubes, large penny, large water jug, windmill with pump, wheel barrow, trough — the sky’s the limit!

Present information about the Penny Power project through church story times.

Have children take up a collection periodically for coins (using buckets or other containers). Have a regular time so people will know when to bring in extra coin.

Ask individuals, businesses, grandma or grandpa to provide the incentive of a promise to match the amount raised (church wide or relief sale wide or individual). This could be a stated amount, percentage of coin collected or any other working arrangement. Perhaps you already have a relief sale donor who would like to make their donation available for a match. It is surprising what a great incentive this can be!
